Most people bought a domain name for business purposes. To advertise. To promote. To create an internet presence.
Without trying to be a fish that swims against the flow, I decided to buy a domain name simply … for fun.
Or if you find it hard to believe, let’s say that on top of having fun, I want to get serious about myself.
I had been promising myself that I would start a serious writing career. Not as a career where one makes money on, but as a career on which I can build a legacy.
I have been keeping blogs these years, but all of them are buried under a different domain name. It’s like living in your parents’ home. It is your home, but you can’t say it belongs to you.
Then I realized that having my own domain names do pay many benefits. To name a few:
- The ability to control my internet identity.
- The ease of having everything in one place. Under that domain name, I can put together everything that I have been hoarding on the Net: blogs, articles, reviews, photos, social networks, and so on.
- I can claim ownership of my works. When people quote something that I wrote, they can simply say, “Quoted from stephensiregar.com”, rather than “Quoted from a WordPress blog.”
- People can find me more easily. If they type in my name in a search engine, it will return my domain name, where people can find everything that is related to me.
And there they are. Not for vanity, not for vain pride. For simplicity, for practicality.
Although it does gives you a good feeling knowing that you have a website with your name on it.
